Inspection limitation
REA inspection and bundle analysis observed an Access Denied document in the browser, with zero application scripts or captured network requests. Framework, styling, exact interaction implementation and APIs cannot be established; reconstructed interactions are clean-room approximations rather than claims about internals.
Public navigation and links
The five navigation groups expose destinations for agency information, careers, history/museum, news and resources. Hero and feature CTAs link to the corresponding public cia.gov pages; the homepage also has a search control and skip-to-main link.
cia.govPublic homepage structure
Homepage exposes a utility header (Contact, Report Information, Search), five main navigation groups (Today's CIA, Careers, Legacy, Newsroom, Library), four mission/careers/legacy/transparency hero messages, followed by Agency, Careers, Legacy, Stories, two commemorative features, and a multi-column footer.
cia.gov# Public information homepage — clean-room reconstruction A responsive, static interpretation of the public CIA homepage at `https://www.cia.gov/index.html`. This is an independent reconstruction, not an official government website. The visual artwork and mark are original CSS approximations, not copies of official imagery or a seal. ## Run locally No build or dependencies are required. From this directory, run: ```sh python3 -m http.server 8000 ``` Visit <http://localhost:8000/>. You can also open `index.html` directly. The page works without the optional Google Fonts download using system font fallbacks. Links to agency resources, the search form, and footer destinations navigate to the public CIA website and require internet access; they are not implemented as local pages. ## What works - Responsive utility header, mobile menu and five expandable navigation groups. Click a group to open it; Escape closes the active menu. The skip link and visible keyboard focus support keyboard navigation. - Expandable search form, submitting a `q` query to the public search URL. This is a conventional approximation; the target's actual search implementation could not be verified. - Four manually controlled featured hero messages, with numbered selectors and previous/next buttons. The controls wrap around; the current selection is announced through accessible labels. There is no automatic rotation. - Agency, careers, legacy, stories, commemorative features and footer sections with links to corresponding public destinations. The layout adapts to narrower screens and honors reduced-motion preferences. `index.html` contains the content and links, `styles.css` defines the header and hero, `sections.css` defines the remaining layout and responsive rules, and `app.js` implements the interactions. Everything runs in the browser; there is no backend or tracking. ## Research and limitations The public readable homepage exposed the utility links, five navigation categories, featured mission/careers/legacy/transparency messages, editorial sections and footer links. The inspection browser received an Access Denied document, with no application scripts or captured requests. Accordingly, the original framework, precise visual design, search parameters, carousel timing, and implementation details could not be verified. This project reconstructs the observed information architecture and plausible behavior rather than claiming to reproduce the original internals. Content and third-party destination URLs may change, and external links may be unavailable or blocked. No access controls were bypassed.
